FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Nine Pioneers Form Los Angeles Credit Unions for Kids Advisory Board
LOS ANGELES (May 12, 2009) – Nine veterans of the southland’s credit union community have teamed up to form the first local Credit Unions for Kids Advisory Board for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The Credit Unions for Kids Advisory Board is the first of its kind in the nation and will spearhead the charge to gain support from Southern California’s credit unions for Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, a proud member hospital of Children’s Miracle Network.
Credit Unions for Kids is a collaboration of credit unions, leagues, chapters and business partners formed to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network – a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. Children’s Miracle Network hospitals treat more than 17 million children a year with cancer, pediatric AIDS, muscular dystrophy, heart disease, leukemia, sickle cell anemia, asthma and accident trauma.
Serving on the Credit Unions for Kids Advisory Board are:
Laura Campbell, Executive Vice President of Farmers Insurance Group Federal Credit Union;
Randy Dotemoto, Chief Strategy Officer of Kinecta Federal Credit Union;
Teresa Freeborn, President & Chief Executive of Xceed Financial Credit Union;
Kimberly Hester, Executive Vice President of Network Services for CO-OP Financial Services;
Carolyn Lane, Senior Vice President of Business Development for CO-OP Financial Services;
Ron McDaniel, President & CEO of California Credit Union;
Nader Moghaddam, CEO of Financial Partners Credit Union;
Darren Williams, President & CEO of Wescom Credit Union;
Celeste Zibelli, Vice President of Marketing and Financial Services for Water & Power Community Credit Union
The Credit Unions for Kids Advisory Board at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles is chaired by Teresa Freeborn, President & Chief Executive of Xceed Financial Credit Union. “Credit unions have long believed in ‘people helping people,’ and what better way to do our part to help the most seriously ill and injured children in our community than by enlisting the support of our fellow credit unions,” said Freeborn during the inaugural meeting of the Advisory Board. “We are proud to do all we can to better serve the needs of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and the more than 100,000 families who rely on its care each year.” Nader Moghaddam, the President and CEO of Financial Partners added “in today’s troubled economic times, credit unions need to find something positive to rally around and what better focus than to help critically ill children and their families.”
The Credit Unions for Kids Advisory Board seeks to not only develop strategies that will grow the program’s fund raising and awareness in Los Angeles, but to also strengthen Childrens Hospital Los Angeles’ relationship with the credit union community by identifying key credit union issues, (i.e., advocacy, governmental relations, etc.) that can be positively impacted by Children’s Miracle Network and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
The Credit Unions for Kids Advisory Board has set a fundraising goal of $300,000 for 2009, and seeks to reach their goal through a variety of fund raising strategies. They include an annual wine auction, employee participation in a national Miracle Jeans Day, and by reaching out to the more than two million Angelenos that are members of credit unions to donate through online banking and a paper balloon icon campaign.
